In line with the Malaysian Education Development Plan (PPPM-PT) 2015-2025 on the transformation in education, ICT plays its own role. The cultural adaptation of 'Bring Your Own Device' (BYOD), Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), 'flip classroom' and 'student centered learning' has become a staple for any University to the extent that the University's development and ability to meet the current needs of students.

Increasing budget allocation is a key issue in ensuring that ICT operations and services can continue to be provided to students with increasingly challenging technical needs. Computer labs are the largest asset to support the teaching and learning (R&D) core of a University. Outdated computer hardware, high maintenance costs and specialized software procurement for each Faculty require more systematic and cost effective laboratory management. Starting in 2014, GOAL-ITQAN, USIM has embarked on an alternative journey to managing more cost effective computer labs through the 'Clouddesk Virtualization System' technology. The technology promises low 'Total Cost of Ownership' (TCO) with low initial cost, capable of prolonging computer life, reducing operating costs and increasing utilization of resource. .

Cloudesk Virtualization System (CVS) is a concept based on 'virtual desktop infrastructure' (VDI) technology where software or operating systems are made into images and deployed on a server (server), then accessed by users via desktop PC / tablet. CVS selection takes into account three key aspects of the product being developed and having its own R&D team in Malaysia, cost-effective acquisition and technology that supports 'offline mode'. A total of 500 CVS licenses were issued by the end of 2015 for the purposes of computer labs at five Faculty. Of these five Faculty, a total of 293 PCs were acquired in 2009, with a minimum specification of 2GB RAM and 250GB HDD using CVS. Through this method, USIM has enjoyed savings of RM 586,000, of which 66% was saved for the period 2015 to 2020. This extends the life span of 293 PCs from 5 years to 10 years.

In addition to assisting in the management of computer labs, GOAL-ITQAN has also deployed these virtual learning software (Vapps) to make it accessible to students and lecturers / researchers in their respective locations such as residential colleges. This will encourage the use of teaching software among USIM citizens and support the digital transformation environment through the implementation of BYOD.

In conclusion, the Clouddesk Virtualization System is seen as a cost effective computer laboratory management tool that can be implemented by educational institutions in ensuring the future of computer lab operations in the future, especially in a volatile economy.

 

Biodata :

Performs as Director, Open Access Learning Center - Immersive Technology and Networking (GOAL-ITQAN), Islamic University of Malaysia (USIM). He previously served as Deputy Director, ICT Infrastructure Division, GOAL-ITQAN until January 14, 2019.

Is a born child of Johor Bahru, Johor. Begin his service as a civil servant at the * College of Universiti Islam Malaysia (KUIM) as Information Technology Officer, F41 on July 17, 2000 after completing his Bachelor of Information Technology at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia in April 2000. In 2005, he was appointed Head of the Administrative Application Unit for led the development of the university administration application system after his appointment to the Information Technology Officer, F44. He completed his undergraduate degree in Computer Science in late 2009 and a total of three journal articles were accepted and indexed in SCOPUS at that time.

He has over 10 years of experience in managing ICT projects and developing university information systems, 16 University administration applications systems have been developed with the team. During this period, several awards were received including the Information Management Award (University Information Systems Team), 3rd Place Malaysian Emerging Knowledge Organization Award, Innovation and Design Award (2009): myCLAIM system, 2nd Place MYGOSSCONN (2013): MyARIFS system, awards from the KPT (Ministry of Higher Education) in helping to develop the SIstem myBUDGET and received the Certified Tester Foundation Level (CTFL) in 2010. In 2014, he was appointed Head of the ICT Services Division and helped USIM prepare the USIM's ICT Strategic Plan (ISP) 2016 -2020, assisting the ICT service team in providing 'Green Data Center', implementing 'Notebook Staff Vouchers',' CloudDesk Virtualization System, USIM Dashboard and developing the current Information Security Management System (ISMS) in the ISO 27001: 2013 certification process.

He is currently spearheading the 'Smart University' initiative with the Team. He has also been appointed Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the ICT Technical Committee (Ministry of Education) Meeting from 2015 to 2018. He is currently a Member of the Technical Committee of the ICT Transformation Implementation Project Committee from March 18, 2019 and Member of the Steering Committee on Network projects KPM from April 9, 2019. USIM has been recognized as a member of AKRAB CARE and a Public Service Advisor of Malaysia (AKRAB) in 2018 and has served as Coordinator and Facilitator of Effective Communication Skills program for Leaders organized by AKEPT in collaboration with USIM for 2019. He is currently in continued his PhD at the University of Malaysia in the field of data security.
