UTeM : Unified Communication (UC)

Article Summary

UTeM UC

With the rapidly changing communication landscape, multilateral relationships no longer function statistically and are focused on just one type of medium. The concept of an unrestricted world now in motion with the Industrial Revolution 4.0 needs to be adapted by UTeM to remain a pioneer and leader. In line with the latest technological advances, voice communication networks no longer rely heavily on the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and copper line as the best medium of communication but intranet networks and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) have begun to take on the role.

In fact, communication is not only confined to the scope of voice, but requires face-to-face discussions in virtual space in real-time. Consumers are no longer bound to stay on the desk, but the introduction of the concept of working and learning from anywhere at any time is also a necessary factor in transforming this relationship.

Changing this technology not only involves a change in the workforce, but a major change in the university's telephone number that has impacted globalization. So meticulous planning has been agreed upon and from September 2017, the transition to conventional use of the line has begun to take place in stages and stages. Awareness campaigns from the faculty to each center of responsibility and awareness to institutions and the public were created through all media sources whether through electronic mail, correspondence and social media.

With a more effective communication system, the use of UC began to expand into the academic environment. With the introduction of Virtual Discussion Room, viva voce and discussions and presentations with experts from around the world can be done from within the University at any time, simple, organized and comfortable. Talking with colleagues from overseas requires only smartphone access with a special UTeM UC application connected to a wireless network. Combined with the implementation and use of eduroam, UTeM researchers now have to worry about the cost or impact of their carbon footprint when contacting their neighbors and friends in their homeland.
