Introduction
This unit was established in October 2006 right after the Information Technology Division was upgraded to InfoComm Development Centre (iDEC) Although it is newly formed, it is actually continuing the existing functions of the Customer Service Section in the former division.
This unit is responsible in providing processing service of OMR forms, managing licensed software such as SPSS, SAS, Oracle, Microsoft Office, etc., managing students´ laboratory, personal computer maintenance in iDEC and counter services.
Objectives
The objectives are:
- to prepare and provide effective, efficient and user-friendly services; and
- to provide efficient and systematic counter system based on the ICT environment.
Functions
The functions of this unit are:
- to provide service in processing OMR forms and other related processes such as:
- to process OMR forms for examination and teaching evaluation purposes;
- to upload data to SMP (upon request);
- OMR System and
- OMR programme: answer sheet analysis.
- to supervise matters on software licenses such as SPSS, Oracle, etc. from time to time;
- to manage students´ computer laboratory and consumer training room in iDEC (Beta) such as;
- equipment – personal computers and related equipments (printer, LCD projector, etc.);
- software – laboratory basic needs and other additional software if required;
- computer laboratory furniture and fittings – chairs, computer tables, whiteboard, clock, etc.
- timetable – booking system, etc.
- to provide systematic e-counter services (Helpdesk) such as:
- to provide brief information relating to services offered in iDEC;
- to help the management in dealing with visitors or guests; and
- to monitor and operate the students´ computer laboratory.
- to provide support services (laboratory, software and expertise) to the University´s community based on needs and requirements; and
- to provide maintenance work to iDEC personal computers and help maintain personal computers in other PTJs that are using the systems that are supported by iDEC.
Services
Services being offered are:
Students’ Computer Laboratory
There are altogether four laboratories, i.e.:
- Yusof Laboratory, Ground Floor, iDEC Beta)
- Rahman Laboratory, Ground Floor, iDEC Beta)
- Consumer Training Room, Second Floor, iDEC Beta)
Each Laboratory contains 38 and 32 personal computers respectively to cater specifically for the students´ needs. However, during the semester holidays, UPM staff can book the laboratory.
The Consumer Training Room has 20 personal computers to be used specifically by UPM staff. If the laboratory is not in used, booking by external party is allowed with a rate which will be determined by the iDEC management.
